This custom trip explores a must-see part of the United States, the Smoky Mountains. Enjoy three night stays in Atlanta, Georgia; Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Asheville, North Carolina. Day two visit the CNN Center for an Inside CNN Studios tour. Next, visit Coca Cola World and taste the many flavors of Coke from all over the world. Tonight join your fellow travelers at a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. Day three travel to Stone Mountain Park and enjoy the summit skyride. This high speed Swiss cable car provides a stunning view of the Confederate Memorial Carving as you are transported 825 feet above ground to the top of Stone Mountain. At the top, experience amazing views of the Atlanta skyline, the Appalachian Mountains and more. This afternoon choose either a visit to the moving Center for Civil and Human Rights or the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. Day four travel to Chatanooga and view the Chatanooga Choo Choo, which currently stands as a motel. After lunch, continue on to Gatlinburg. Tonight, be entertained by Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede and dinner/show. Day five travel to Pigeon Forge for an included visit to Dolly Parton’s theme park – Dollywood! In addition to theme rides, Dollywood features traditional crafts and music of the Smoky Mountains area. Adventures in Imagination areas explore Dolly Parton’s life and imagination. Many attractions focus on the history and culture of the southern Appalachian region. Upon arrival back in Gatlinburg, enjoy a visit to Sugarland’s Distillery to taste some moonshine. Day six experience the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site with one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth. In Cherokee, visit the Oconaluftee Visitors Center. This afternoon enjoy a ride on the Smoky Mountain Railroad. Ride alongside the beautiful Nantahala River on the Nantahala Gorge Excursion departing from Bryson City; this 4.5 hour excursion carries you 44 miles to the Nantahala Gorge and back again. Day seven depart Gatlinburg for the state of North Carolina. Travel to Grandfather Mountain and then south on the Blue Ridge Parkway toward Asheville. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day eight enjoy a glass blowing demonstration at Lexington Glassworks. In 1895, George Vanderbilt II decided to build “a little mountain escape” in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The result was the impressive Biltmore Estate. You will tour the mansion and the grounds. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner. Day nine the tour ends and you head home.
