Day two arrive in Rome, the “Eternal City”. Day three enjoy free time. Tonight join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner. Day four a locally guided panoramic tour of Rome features the Piazza Venezia, the Circus Maximus, the Arch of Constantine and the famous Piazza Navona. Afterwards, enjoy a guided tour of the Colosseum. This afternoon you may choose an optional tour to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica. Day five travel to Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the old city, including the Basilica of St. Francis. Afterwards you’re off to medieval Perugia to behold one of the grandest squares in Italy – the Piazza IV Novembre. Day six journey through Tuscany’s graceful low-lying hills to the mystical city of Siena. After a walking tour, explore the narrow Gothic streets, with its great shops and outdoor cafes before arriving in Florence, the “Cradle of Italian Renaissance”. Day seven begins with a visit to the world-famous Academy Gallery to see Michelangelo’s statue of David. Your tour continues to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore, the Palazzo Vecchio, and the Church of Santa Croce, burial place of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. The afternoon is at leisure. Day eight depart Florence and stop at a historic winery in the heart of the Chianti region with its own 12th century castle. Learn about Tuscany’s famous wines and enjoy a lunch filled with local specialties. Afterwards, travel to enchanting Venice. Consisting of 117 tiny islands, 150 canals, and 400 bridges, Venice is one of the most interesting and lovely places in the world. Day nine begins with a boat trip to Murano Island for an up-close glass making demonstration. Next, return to Venice and arrive at St. Mark’s Square, where it’s your choice! Join a local expert on a walking tour of this famous square to view the St. Mark’s Basilica and visit the Doge’s Palace and the legendary the Bridge of Sighs. Or, go off the beaten path to explore the Castello Sestiere district with a local expert; get to know authentic Venice and see for yourself how the locals live as you walk canal by canal through the narrow streets lined with churches and historic buildings. The afternoon is at leisure. Day ten depart Venice and travel to Milan. On your locally guided walking tour view the Opera House La Scala and Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, and visit the Duomo – this magnificent Gothic cathedral is the third largest church in Europe. Tonight toast the end of an incredible journey at a farewell dinner. Day eleven the tour ends and you travel home.
