Carving Cabochons From the Back

ID : 40467
« back to classes page
This class  will be focusing on making a cabochon that incorporates carving in its overall shape. The carving will be done on the back thus the material has to be quite translucent so the carving will show through to the front.  The material that will be used is milky chalcedony, light carnelian or gray chalcedony. This material is rather abundant but the results are rather striking in appearance. This class will be done by carving a design from the back of the cab utilizing round and V diamond burs. Students will also be fabricating various shapes of wood pieces to sand and polish the features that are carved in the back. The finished piece can be used for a beautiful pendant.
