Get into the holiday spirit and travel to the “Jazz Capital of the World” – New Orleans! In December, the city sparkles with the season’s pageantry and rolls out the red (and green) carpet! Day two visit the Hermann-Grima house for an old-fashioned Christmas. See the home as it appeared in the 19th century and learn about Creole holiday traditions. Afterwards, a walking tour of the French Quarter features the majestic St. Louis Cathedral. Perhaps you’ll hear some carolers in Jackson Square as you make your way past the Pontalba, the oldest apartment building in the French Quarter. These historic structures will be dressed in holiday finery. Next, stop to taste a true New Orleans favorite – beignets at Café Du Monde. Then, explore Pirate’s Alley and the bustling French Marketplace where you can find unique Christmas gifts and see a 30-foot tree topped by a Fleur de Lis! The afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, you’re in for a treat at the New Orleans School Of Cooking. Learn how to cook for the holidays with this New Orleans style demonstration. After dinner, the magic continues at Celebration in the Oaks, a New Orleans tradition, with a train ride that takes you through lit bridges, lagoons and gardens. Day three set out on a guided panoramic tour. See the St. Louis Cemetery #3, which opened in 1854 and holds some of the most elaborate crypts found in the city’s cemeteries. Then, relax during a drive along the shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain. Next, enjoy lunch and a holiday-themed musical revue by the Victory Belles at the National World War II Museum. Afterwards, you’ll want to explore this fascinating museum to learn about the American wartime experience. Day four drive along New Orleans’ historic Esplanade Avenue. Then, journey through the Louisiana swamp on a cruise narrated by your colorful captain. Learn about the history and ecology of this fascinating ecosystem while keeping an eye out for wildlife, including bald eagles, herons, turtles and alligators. Return to New Orleans and the afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, celebrate the season and toast the end of a great trip at a traditional reveillon dinner at The Court of Two Sisters in the French Quarter. Day five the tour ends and you head home.
