« back to classes page
This class will involve carving of hard wax to make models for jewelry items such as rings and pendants. The ring models will be made from hard wax ring tubes that are predrilled for further custom shaping to fit your finger. The ultimate shape will be developed by your ideas and design concepts. The rough shaping will be done with a wax bur mounted in a flex shaft machine. Further shaping will be done with files and wax carving hand tools. Pendants will be carved from hard wax sheets utilizing the burs on a flex shaft machine  and hand tools.
Incorporating the wax pen you will be able to add designs to the carved piece. The ring tubes and hard wax sheets will be provided by the instructor; however, students are encouraged to bring any materials that they want to learn to work on. Some carving tools will be available but you are also encouraged to bring your wax carving tools and files. The instructor will show you how to modify them for specific carving tasks.
