This is not a billing course. This course is meant to teach the Basics of CPT coding, in order to: 1) prepare attendees for entry level coding in various healthcare settings where CPT is used, such as physician offices, medical group practices, clinics, billing companies and hospitals. 2) To assist attendees to prepare to take the CCA or CCS exams offered by the AHIMA to become a nationally certified coder. Course covers guidelines/conventions, as noted in the AMA-CPT book, APC reimbursement information, with numerous coding exercises.
In order to be successful in the medical coding CPT course, it is recommended that the attendee have knowledge of medical terminology. Please read the attached requirements to take the national exam given by AHIMA. Please see the website for AAPC to obtain their requirements to take their National exam. Also recommended is an Anatomy/Physiology course without a lab.
